Ms Margaret Miller

Consultant

Margaret Miller was one of Australia’s first pioneers in CSR (Corporate social responsibility) and the first Australian to complete Professional Certification from the Boston College Center for Corporate Citizenship in America. This Program emphasizes how corporate social investment not only advanc-es communities and protects the environment but delivers benefits to businesses as well.

During nine years in the CSR area with NRMA she led an innovative CSR initiative aligning their social investment with insurance business strategic objectives to deliver social and corporate bene-fits that enhanced its iconic brand status.

Among other initiatives she created the Crimesafe Program and in recognition of this ground break-ing work she was invited to join the NSW Premier’s Crime Prevention Council.

Margaret was also invited to join a Myer Foundation funded study tour to Manila to learn more about the corporate citizenship initiatives carried out in the Philippines by multi-national companies to facilitate their “social license to operate”. Margaret regularly presents business talks on CSR (corporate social responsibility) both in the US and in Australia.

In the Australian energy sector, she has established and managed community advisory committees and implemented stakeholder engagement strategies in support of contentious development proposals that could impact on local environments and communities.

She has worked in the not for profit, government and corporate sectors as well as establishing her own consultancy and working as an associate of Managing Values. She has a BA majoring in Social Anthropology and a Master’s Degree in Criminology.
